The standard addresses common hazards for users in and around the home but excludes considerations for individuals with physical, sensory, or mental limitations that hinder safe use without supervision and for children playing with the appliance. Additionally, it notes that appliances for vehicles, ships, or aircraft may require further specifications and that countries may have regulations from health or labor authorities. Notably, this standard does not apply to appliances emitting vaporized chemicals, producing ultrasonic waves, or intended for corrosive or explosive environments. For appliances with discharge or tungsten filament lamps, IEC 60598-1 is relevant. |
