This notification, published on the 31st of August, 2023, carries substantial implications for manufacturers, importers, and consumers of these products.
The Central Government's Directive
The Central Government, recognizing the importance of maintaining high standards in the production and distribution of primary aluminium ingots for remelting , has taken a pivotal step. It has mandated that these products must conform to the corresponding Indian Standard as per IS 2590:1987
Under this new regulation, primary aluminium ingots for remelting that meet the prescribed Indian Standard will be authorized to bear the Standard Mark. However, obtaining this authorization will require manufacturers to obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards in accordance with Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
