Notably, without the ISI Mark, these products cannot be legally marketed, imported, or exported to the Indian consumer market. The quality parameters specified for Reusable Sanitary Pads, Sanitary Napkins, and Period Panties include aspects such as top cover, absorbent core, bottom layer, outer protective barrier, backsheet, types and shapes, pH value, ability to withstand pressure after absorption, fastening mechanism, size, bacterial and fungal bioburden.
To use the Standard Mark on Reusable Sanitary Pads, Sanitary Napkins, and Period Panties as per IS 17514:2021, manufacturers must obtain a license with the following scope: Type/Grade/Variety, Size Class (Small/Medium/Large/Extra Large), and optional requirements like with or without biocompatibility evaluation and with or without antibacterial activity value. In the case of antibacterial activity, manufacturers are required to specify the declared value initially and after the declared cycle washes. This comprehensive certification process ensures that these reusable menstrual products adhere to the necessary quality standards and contribute to a sustainable and hygienic menstrual care landscape.
