BIS QCO for the Geo Textiles (Geotextiles used as protection (or cushioning) materials)
The Ministry of Textiles introduces the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," slated to be effective from January 1, 2024. This amendment is designed to refine and strengthen the existing quality control framework for geo textiles, ensuring enhanced standards within the industry.
This order is specifically applicable to goods or articles falling under the category of Geotextiles used as protection (or cushioning) materials, excluding those intended for export.
To ensure compliance with established standards, the specified goods or articles must adhere to Indian Standard IS 16090:2013 (Geosynthetics Geo-textiles used as protection (or cushioning) materials - Specification) and bear the Standard Mark. Manufacturers are required to obtain a license from the Bureau, following Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The Bureau is designated as both the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified goods or articles, namely Geotextiles used as protection (or cushioning) materials. Non-compliance with this order is subject to penalties in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
This regulatory measure aims to uphold the quality and standards of Geo Textiles, specifically addressing Geotextiles used as protection (or cushioning) materials, fostering safety and reliability in the industry.
